Province No. 1 is one of the provinces established by the new constitution of Nepal which was adopted on 20 September 2015. As per, Cabinet Meeting on 17th Jan 2018, Biratnagar has been declared as the interim capital of Province No. 1. According to Census 2011, there are around 4.5 million people in the province, with a population density of 175.6 per square kilometer.
